Pollyanna Playgroup was opened by Christine McCartney and Jane Allen on Tuesday 22 April 1986 at Lindford Working Men’s Club with 13 children. The group was open for 2 sessions per week, Tuesdays and Fridays and all the equipment was stored in a shed across the car park.
Christine and Jane decided to move on and Sue Campbell took over for a short while. With the help of Shirley Vokes, Lesley Cooper took over as supervisor in October 1989 with Sue Holloway as her right hand lady (they have argued ever since!)
During May 1997 we moved down to Lindford Church Hall and were pleased they didn't have to pack away in the shed, we had a lovely cupboard. The PLA change their name from Play school Learning Alliance to Pre-school and as a member of the PLA, Pollyanna Playgroup change their name.
Lesley Cooper with the help of her staff built Pollyanna Pre-school up from 2 to 5 morning sessions and then all day sessions.Due to the popularity of Lindford a second venue was found.Pollyanna Pre-school within The Holme Primary School, Headley opened in September 2001.Having their own classroom with lovely views was such an advantage.
Pollyanna Pre-schools still continue to go from strength to strength; both settings are extremely popular and liaise with all schools.
Our aim is to offer and provide a safe, secure, happy and stimulating environment, helping all children to develop the confidence to develop the confidence and new skills required for their early years in school.
